"Dancing On Ice 2019" celebrities showed that hard work and dedication to their performances pays off, as they took to the ice and wowed the Ice Panel with almost all of them earning their highest scores of the series. Melody and her Professional Partner Alexander also earned themselves the highest score of the series with a spectacular comeback from last week's performance.
However, it wasn't all happiness in this Sunday's live show as Ex-Cricketer, Ryan Sidebottom was unable to dance this week after tearing a muscle in his groin. His performance was pulled by the show's medics, but he hopes to return next week, telling Philip and Holly "You want to get through on merit.
You want to improve on last week."
High scores all round in 'Dancing'
The first to take to the ice was James Jordan and his partner Alexandra who were looking to improve on last week's Musical performance after James suffered a few stumbles. But Sunday's performance earned them the "Highest score of the series so far" as they danced to Wilson Pickett's "Land of 1000 Dances," with a 31.5/40. Chris said, "You are blurring the lines between celebrity and the professional."
Next to hit the ice was Saaira and Hamish, who after last weeks performance that combined singing and dancing on the ice had a lot to live up to. Their dance to "Symphony" by Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson earned them 27/40, their highest score so far in the series.
While Jason was surprisingly positive "You have improved your lines and your technique," Ashley became the bad guy telling the singer, "Last week you connected to the performance and the song."
Third to perform on Sunday was Didi and Lukask who danced to Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger," that also earned them their highest score of the series with an 18.5/40.
Jason told the "Grease" Star, "you are adorable and always will be adorable," while Jayne told her the "performance as always is a 10/10 for me."
Gemma and Matt were next to perform, with a lot of pressure on them after Gemma was criticised for her poor performance last week. Despite falling hard onto the ice at the end of her performance, Gemma recovered well and the Judges awarded her a 16.5/40 adding her to the list of Celebrities who earned their highest score on Sunday night.
Pussycat Doll Melody and professional partner Alexander showed what they were made of in their performance, as they attempted the "Detroiter" once more and succeeded as well as performing the first "Headbanger" with perfection, to Fleur East's "Sax." Their comeback performance wowed everyone and knocked James Jordan out of first place with their score of 32.5/40.
Sixth to perform were Wes and Vanessa who danced to "Sign Of The Times" by Harry Styles, something new for the "Love Island" Star who has previously danced to upbeat songs. However, the twice highest scorer did not make the top spot this week, although he did earn an impressive 29'5/40. Jason and Chris agreed that the performance lacked "finesse" while Ashley told Wes, "it was a little rough around the edges."
Westlife's Brian and his partner Alex gave an impressive performance to "With Or Without You" by U2.
The couple kept up the trend with their highest score of the series after being awarded a score of 24/40, all of the Judge's telling Brian that he needed to be more confident. Jayne told him "I can see an improvement week on week," and Jason advising him to "have more of a commanding presence."
Saira and Mark danced to Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart," and also made a comeback after being in last week's Skate Off, managing to earn their highest score of the series with 24/40. Although Ashley and Jason felt she was still too reliant on her partner Mark, Jayne told her "you have taken everything on board," while Chris felt she was "showcasing you to your best ability."
Last to perform on Sunday night were Jane and Sylvain, who performed to Kylie Minogue's "I Wanna Go Dancing," and scored themselves an impressive 21.5/40.
However, the feedback from the Judges was not so positive. Jason felt that it "lacked a lot of dance content," while Ashley told her "aesthetically there were some really awkward body positions."
Torvill and Dean dance as professionals
The famous Ice Dancing duo, Torvill and Dean, finally took to the ice Sunday night, with their own routine to Randy Newman's "You Got A Friend In Me," in a performance that would have earned them all ten's from the Ice Panel. Although the celebrities have all shown major improvement this week 'Torvill and Dean' certainly set the bar high and showed how much higher a level the Celebrities could improve to.
Two celebrities who wanted to show they had improved were Melody and Didi, who both faced Sunday's "Skate Off." Unfortunately, Didi lost her place in the competition after all four Judges voted for Melody to stay.
