There is a rumour that Rocksteady, the studio behind the massively popular and successful “Batman: Arkham Asylum” series, will announce a new Superman game. This originates from a 4chan user who claims to have details about Rocksteady’s latest endeavour.

There have been other rumours that Rocksteady is working on a Superman game and it seems like the studio might have been working on one at some point. We don’t know whether this was scrapped or if they continued to work on it in secret.

Superman game rumour

The rumour comes from a 4chan user, so there is a reason to take this with a pinch of salt.

They have stated that the game will be officially announced before E3 which is set to take place between June 12th-14th. The poster made several claims around what we might be able to expect from the game including that it would be made using the Unreal Engine 4 and it would be set in the city of Metropolis and be roughly 3 times to size of the city in Arkham Knight.

The poster went on to claim that in terms of gameplay, players would not be able to play as Clark Kent and that the combat system would incorporate Superman’s ability to fly. It would also be set within the same universe as the Arkham games and its main villain would be Brainiac. The poster also said that Superman would not somewhat nerfed and that the environment would only be semi-destructible so we can expect not building to collapse.

Could it be a hoax?

The post itself also had a piece of concept art featuring Superman and if the fact that this was a post on 4chan and not a legitimate source wasn’t enough to throw doubt about this rumour, the image shared with the concept art was created by Charles Logan, an artist, who posted it to his ArtStation account three years ago.

In the post, Logan says that the image was concept art for a client’s video game pitch that was scrapped.

This also isn’t the first time that a 4chan user has claimed a Superman is on the way. In November 2017, there was another claim that stated it would be announced as part of a cover issue on Game Informer, and editor Andrew Reiner stated this wasn’t the case.

It's probable that we’ll find out whether this rumour is true over the next few weeks. Whether the announcement comes before or during E3, we’ll just have to wait and see. If there is not news by the end of E3, then this be dismissed as just another hoax. If it is true, then a Superman game would be an excellent addition to the Arkham Universe and superhero games in general.
