Popular football game, FIFA 18 is getting a Free update for the football world cup that starts in June. The update will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch on May 29th, 2018. This is the first time that a FIFA game has decided to release a World Cup expansion rather than a stand-alone game. The free update will include all 32 of the teams taking part in the World Cup, along with 12 Russian stadiums along with official kits, badges and much more.

FIFA 18 World Cup tournaments

This update will include online matches and tournaments specific to the World Cup expansion.

It will also include custom tournaments that allow players to create fantasy versions with teams that didn’t qualify taking part. The Ultimate Team mode will also receive an update, this will include special cards, improvements to allow players to benefit by playing with teammates from their country.

FIFA Mobile is also getting a World Cup update. This update is time-limited and starts on June 6th, 2018, however, the exact details of this update and event have not yet been released. This FIFA 18 expansion builds on the same core of the original game and gives players something special to do during the World Cup. It is dropping before the tournament starts, so players can warm themselves up for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

FIFA 18 allows players to create a team of their favourite players or play as an established squad and then compete either online or through local multiplayer. The game itself was released on September 29th, 2017 and was met with a mixed critical response.

FIFA 18 reviews

Sites like GameSpot praised the improvements FIFA 18 had made off the pitch but stated that the matches were inferior to its main competitor “PES 2018”.

GameSpot also praised FIFA 18 for adding a Team of the Week feature, daily objectives and the fact that real-world events were discussed in the game’s commentary. Overall, they gave the game a 7/10.

This new update isn’t going to change the core gameplay in FIFA 18 but it will add some new modes for players to enjoy. The fact that EA normally releases a stand-alone priced game rather than a free update means that players are essentially getting a free game.

This update will be released on May 29th which is just ahead of the June 14th start for the actual World Cup held in Russia and this gives players a chance to become familiar with the teams competing and experience both a video game and real life football World Cup.
