Although the competition has not even reached halfway, it looks improbable that Manchester City might lose the leadership. Certainly, the match of today seemed an almost last opportunity to Manchester United in their pursuit of winning the Premier League.

However, they have lost 1-2 at Old Trafford against their rivals, and now they should be more worried about their persecutors.

Not just for the difference of points, because Manchester United still has a comfortable gap of six up over Arsenal, the fifth on the table, but for the feeling of invincibility that is actually surrounding Guardiola's team.

Apart from their victory at Old Trafford, the 'Citizens' were also capable of a win at Stamford Bridge, same as they did playing at home when facing Liverpool and Arsenal. Moreover, the next weekend they will play against Tottenham Hotspur, indeed another opportunity to show their huge strength, as they have been doing over the whole season.

Currently, Manchester City is leading the Premier League with 46 points, and if they keep showing this level until the end of the season, they seem, perhaps among PSG, the real candidate to win the Champions League.

The Merseyside derby ends with a draw

After 20 shots and grabbing 79% of the possession, Liverpool couldn't get a victory in front of their supporters. Despite they got the lead with the 13th goal by Salah in the Premier League, eventually Rooney scored a penalty to secure a point for Everton.

Surely, Klopp's team will be highly disappointed on failing to close more of the gap with Manchester United and Chelsea after the defeats of those teams. Nevertheless, the only regret for Liverpool should be the lack of aim in front of the Everton's keeper.

Anyway, they are still holding the fourth place in the Premier League, and even though Klopp decided not to include Firmino and Coutinho from the beginning, they have shown a notable performance.

Clearly, players such as Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Solanke might be very useful for refreshing the team, especially during the difficult period after Christmas.

Tottenham shines among the Londoners

With an excellent performance played by Kane, who scored two goals, Tottenham won against Stoke City. In doing so, they are just one point behind Arsenal, who didn´t manage a victory facing Southampton. At least, the Gunners earned a draw. Meanwhile, Chelsea lost surprisingly at West Ham.

Though it seems that nobody will really threaten the position of Manchester City, there are five teams fighting for three places to enter in the Champions League. Therefore, the supporters should expect an exciting second part of the competition, as it happened during the last season.

Then, Arsenal didn´t reach the top four, hence the other five strongest English teams are now looking forward to the Champions League draw which will be celebrated tomorrow.
