Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of French Ligue 1 club Olimpique Lyon believes that Manchester United’s winger Memphis Depay will be a Lyon player within 48 hours. The journalist in England say, that Manchester United have agreed to sell Dutch youngster Memphis Depay for £21.7m. Red Devils made sure to include a buy-back option, as they have learnt from Paul Pogba’s situation. Depay is desperate to leave Premier League and rescue his career in France.

Memphis Depay has failed the expectation, as many United supporters thought, that he can be their new Cristiano Ronaldo.

His situation get even worse, when Jose Mourinho arrived to the club, as the talented forward made just one start for Manchester United this season. Jean-Michel Aulas admits that Lyon has gambled on Memphis Depay, buy he hopes that the 22-year-old can make a huge impact on his team.

Could Depay become better in Ligue 1?

“There is always a risk, when you buy a new player. We’ve bet on Memphis, who is desperate to show his huge talent and I think that our club is a great place for him to prove his real value. When he was playing for PSV Eindhoven it was a lot of interest in him, because he had two great seasons in Holland. When you at him, he see a young player, with huge potential to become one of the best players on his position.” – Jean-Michel Aulas said for club’s official website.

Memphis Depay travelled to Lyon at the start of the week to negotiate and complete the deal to join Ligue 1’s side. He can become a new member of the squad today, but it is impossible for him to make his official debut this weekend, when Lyon will host Marseille, who have only few points less.

'He can be crucial for us'

“It’s true, that he didn’t get a lot of playing time at Old Trafford and that’s why it was an opportunity to negotiate with his club.

Manchester United were willing to sell him and we decided to take advantage of Depay’s situation. It’s a big investment for us, we don’t have a huge budget so we need to pay close attention to every signing we make.” – Aulas added.
