In a shocking admission of defeat already. Nick Clegg has admitted British democracy will be enslaved to the Conservatives.
The former Liberal Democrat leader said no political party stands a chance against the Tories, including his own, despite predictions they may win more seats than in 2015.
The former deputy prime minister said Theresa May's overwhelming popularity meant it is impossible for any opposition party to challenge her.
'British democracy is paralysed'
Speaking at the Convention on Brexit and the Political Crash, Mr. Clegg said British democracy has become paralysed due to the lack of competition between political parties in Britain.
He said the left-wing vote in this country will be split between his party, Labour and the Scottish National Party, which will cause the Conservatives to pick up dozens of seats.
The Liberal Democrat said that due no political party standing a chance of overthrowing the Tories, British democracy is stuck, implying the opposition have enabled Mrs May to create a one-party state.
However, this is not the only occasion where Mr. Clegg has personally attacked her in this General Election so far.
He branded the Prime Minister as robotic, brittle and a petty character who will fail in forthcoming Brexit negotiations.
'Nixonian paranoia'
Mr. Clegg accused his former colleague during the Coalition years of 'Nixonian paranoia' in trying to gain political advantage prior to the Brexit talks.
He also accused the Tories of transforming into a UKIP-duplicate whilst pushing Britain into a hard Brexit that will cause economic misery for millions of people.
But the former deputy prime minister said during the Coalition years, she was a tough negotiator who did well to win support for her policies back then.
He claimed Mrs May was petty over her policy to cut child asylum seekers in a bid to deliver minuscule savings.
He said she has no emotional intelligence.
The former Liberal Democrat leader said this was best demonstrated when she stated Britain will be withdrawing from the European Union's Single Market and Customs Union.
Mr. Clegg said she is not being held to account over the fundamental architecture of her own kind of Brexit.
He added: 'How much more extreme can it get?'
The Liberal Democrat accused the Prime Minister of hysteria after she blamed EU politicians for interfering in the general election campaign.
'Curtain-twitching conspiracy'
He branded it a curtain-twitching conspiracy and said the EU is nothing like North Korea.
But the former cabinet minister was also taken to task by Sky News over his failure to acknowledge last year's referendum result, which saw 52% of voters who voted support leaving the EU.
Yet he hit back, saying he does not intend to reopen an argument that has already been won by the Leave side, instead suggesting Mrs May deserves proper scrutiny.
He labelled her type of Brexit as a destructive one.
The alternatives that he proposed included rejoining the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA), which Britain was a member of until it joined the Common Market in 1973.
Nick Clegg served in the Coalition years as deputy prime minister from 2010 to 2015.
He gained political popularity during the first leaders' debate in the 2010 general election, with the phrase 'I agree with Nick' being coined to show people's solidarity with the then Lib Dem leader.
This helped skewer David Cameron's chances of winning an overall majority at the time, causing the Conservatives to go into coalition with Mr. Clegg's party.
Despite this, the then deputy prime minister became universally unpopular for supporting the tripling of university tuition fees from £3000 to £9000 a year.
He also lost huge swathes of support for supporting 'Tory cuts' and increasing the VAT rate from 15% to 20%.
Mr. Clegg resigned as Lib Dem leader after the 2015 General Election due to his party only gaining 8 seats, its worst defeat since the 1920s.
He then went on to serve as the party's Brexit spokesman following last year's referendum result.
