Conan Exiles has released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 both digitally and physically. The game has already sold over one million copies, and previously launched in Early Access.
Hyborian adventures in 'Conan Exiles'
Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game set in the Hyborian world of Robert E. Howard. Plays must fight to survive in this hostile world in either single player or multiplayer modes. Players can build a home or a kingdom as they create their own story through the lands of Conan the Barbarian.
Prior to release, Conan Exiles has sold over one million copies through early access and pre-orders.
It was in Early Access for 15 months and the developers have come forward and stated that it was a great experience where they got a lot of positive community feedback. Developed by Funcom, the game is already one of the most successful titles in their 25-year long history.
Throughout its Early Access release, Conan Exiles has undergone huge changes. The size of the game world has more than doubled, the developers have added new features and mechanics, and lots of new items have been added. The launch version of the game introduces players to two new biomes - Swamp and Volcano. It also includes a new version of the Purge gameplay where monsters will appear to attack and try to destroy your base.
Funcom's history
Previously, Funcom developed the Age of Conan MMORPG for the PC. They are no strangers to the Hyborian Age and have clearly learnt a lot about the lore and tone of the Conan universe. This is apparent throughout their design and approach to developing Conan Exiles.
Other Funcom titles include cult classics The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
These are in a completely different genre to their latest release but they remain fan favourites. Funcom has a lot of experience creating MMO titles with varying success.
Funcom can trace its history all the way back to the Sega Mega Drive and their first title A Dinosaur’s Tale. This was a video game adaption of the Steven Spielberg film, We're Back!
A Dinosaur's Story, and was only released in North America. Funcom has come a long way from their early days on the Mega Drive.
Players must forge their own story as they battle their way through Conan Exiles. You can battle alone, with a friend or against others. Death in the game means losing more than just your life, as you will also lose valuable resources. This can mean alliances and politics can play an important role as you adventure across this Hyborian realm.
Conan Exiles is out now for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It can be bought either digitally or physically.
