After enormous success with her two previous outings, Lara Croft is back in “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.” The first trailer has leaked showing what this latest game has in store for Lara. We see her battling her way through a dark jungle wondering “What will I become?”.

The trailer

This latest “Tomb Raider” game looks to be Lara’s darkest journey yet. The game was originally teased by Square Enix back in March, but now we have finally seen what the story and tone of this latest game will be. Square has said that in this game, Lara will be stopping a Maya apocalypse.

The game is being developed by Deux Ex studio Eidos Montreal. This is a change from the series previous developer, Crystal Dynamic who oversaw the reboot of the series and the successful follow up. “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 14th September 2018.

This latest series of “Tomb Raider” games shows us how Lara Croft became the person she is in the original PlayStation 1 games. We see her on her first adventures and grow into the eponymous “Tomb Raider.” Whether this latest game series will bleed into the past ones we have yet to find out.

The games so far

In the first game, Lara Croft was stranded on a strange island and needed to find the crew of her ship.

She quickly learned survival and weapons skills, and we saw her take her first steps towards greatness. The game itself was a full reimagining of the adventures from the PlayStation 1 days but with a new story and features. There was still plenty of puzzles, climbing and leaping, though.

In the second game, “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” Lara headed to Siberia to find the lost city of Kitezh.

Along the way, she would need to battle the paramilitary organisation The Trinity. The lost city held promises of immortality and Lara needed to keep The Trinity from getting there first.

The gameplay didn’t change massively between games, but there was a definite improvement in visuals and quality. “Rise of the Tomb Raider” took Lara to new heights in terms of graphical fidelity.

She also handled excellently and was a marked improvement over the first game. However, at the end of the day, she was still running, jumping and shooting her way through a blockbuster game.

Now, in “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” it looks like Lara will be having her darkest adventure yet, as she tries to stave off a Maya apocalypse. We will likely see more details and trailers as we draw ever closer to that 14th September release date, so watch this space.
