The 53rd ACM Awards was full of head-scratching moments, superb performances and a stunning surprise return. The show started how it was planned, at a slow but entertaining pace. Thanks to Reba McEntire’s exceptional hosting, it felt like the Academy of Country Music Awards was an event that is just in your backyard. The connection of McEntire to the crowd is surreal and she now being lauded as one of the best hosts in the history of ACM.
Carrie Underwood’s injuries
Carrie Underwood who met an unfortunate accident back in November returned last Sunday with a bang.
The American Idol Grand Winner last 2005 showcased her talent and reminded everyone how great she is when it comes to singing. This is her first public appearance after the scary fall she had back in Nashville. Underwood had 40-50 stitches in her face and wrist and she has needed a few months to recover.
'Cry Pretty'
As soon as she stepped on the stage she delivered, she hit all the notes with ease. After her performance the crowd gave her a standing ovation that lasted for almost a minute. Carrie Underwood was visibly shaken with the crowd's appreciation towards her new single and her returning to spotlight. There’s no soul that she wasn’t able to touch while singing Cry Pretty as her magic touch hasn’t lost a beat.
New face, same voice, exceptional talent
Prior to her returning, she revealed three months ago that people should be ready as she might look a bit different. This sparks rumour and controversy until it was confirmed that it was not only her wrist that was damaged but her face was severely injured. There were moments in her recovery when she wasn’t really feeling herself.
However, with the help of doctors and experts, her wrist and face are almost back to normal.
Vocal of The Year Award together with Keith Urban
Back to the Academy of Country Music Awards, Underwood stated how happy she was knowing that a lot of people still admire her work. The night didn’t end there as she and Keith Urban bagged the Vocal of the Year Award with their collaboration in a song called The Fighter.
The comeback which she has been preparing for is finally complete and indeed one for the books.
So what is next with the 35-year-old singer? Sky’s the limit if you have a talent and an enchanting voice like Carrie Underwood. While other “artists” need a lot to perform in a big crowd, Carrie can do it with just a mic in hand and a stage to stand on.
