George Michael died on Sunday 25 December 2016 at just 53 years old. The sun has gone down on a megastar this Christmas. Across the world, people are recalling his songs, from the catchy Wham! songs of the 80's, to the beautiful "Careless Whisper" and the stunning instant hit when he sang the duet "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me," with Elton John live in 1991.
After the news that George Michael has passed away from heart failure, Elton John was one of the first celebrities to mourn his death on social media. He posted on his Instagram account, "I am in deep shock.
I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans."

Michael was simply too young to die, and the Telegraph reported that he had not been ill, suffering from any secret sickness or malady. According to Police, his death is not being treated as "suspicious" at this time, but under such circumstances, there will be an autopsy. Heart failure has been given as the reason for George's death.
George once said, "stars want to make up for their own weaknesses by being loved by the public." He had his own weaknesses, and his weakness for marijuana caused a rift between him and his friend Elton John for nearly seven years.
It was during this time that the one song we all loved, but George did not particularly like, took on some poignancy. This was the "Careless Whisper," with words that could have been written for Elton John if they had but known the future. "
- "Time can never mend the careless whispers of a good friend to the heart and mind. Ignorance is kind. There's no comfort in the truth. Pain is all you'll find."
