Seville, Spain and why you get a sense of deja vu in films and series

Anyone who is a fan of the "Star Wars" films or HBO's popular series, "Game of Thrones" will definitely experience a sense of deja vu when visiting Seville for the first time. This famous and emblematic Spanish city has many fabulous architectural sites to visit, many of which have starred as film sets in the movies and TV shows.

Without knowing it, "Game of Thrones" fans might think they have seen this wondrous place in a dream.

Besides these popular options, Seville has also been used as a film set for less-known movies like “Carmen,” “Group 7” and “Nobody Knows Anybody.” The city also featured in renowned movies like “Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Dictator,” “Knight and Day” and “Lawrence of Arabia.”

Let's explore some of the more iconic film sets below. You might find yourself bingeing the whole series again if you can't make time to visit the filming sets in person!

1

Palace of the Kingdom of Naboo (Plaza de España, Seville)

Palace of the Kingdom of Naboo can be recognized while visiting the iconic Plaza de España, where you can feel as though you are Queen Amidala, or maybe a Jedi master while taking a stroll around the semi-circular gallery.

As you can see from the video below, they did take some CGI liberties with the Plaza de España, making it circular rather than semi-circular and adding in some domes. There were more than 7,000 people in the film crew for the shooting.

Palace of the Kingdom of Dorne - (Water Garden at the Royal Alcazar of Seville)

Here we see the Water Garden at the Royal Alcazar of Seville, a beautiful and iconic building, which was little changed for the series, as you can see in the video in the next section of the article. You can just imagine you are Khaleesi, resting in the Water Garden in Dorne, in the far south region of Westeros. No props were needed as the palace is perfect as it is.
