Cold outside? Why not snuggle up on the couch with a blanket, some popcorn and other treats and stream a few Stephen King Film adaptations on Netflix.

While not all film adaptations of King's work make the grade for viewers, these five available on Netflix are sure to delight horror fans and will make a change from the Christmas movies everyone is starting to watch right now.

1

'The Green Mile' (1999)

“The Green Mile” is based on King’s 1996 bestselling book of the same name. The moving story tells of a death row inmate with magical healing powers who touches everyone around him in the prison. Tom Hanks plays a prison warden while Michael Clarke Duncan plays the inmate. The film got a nomination for Best Picture in the 2000 Oscars and a Best Supporting Actor award for Duncan.

2

‘The Shining’ (1980)

While King himself didn’t appreciate Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of his novel, the film is excellent and extremely scary. It tells the story of the Torrance family, the patriarch of which is tasked with caring for the Overlook Hotel during its winter closing. There’s plenty of ghosts and things that go bump in the night. Jack Nicholson’s performance as the axe-wielding madman left a definite impression. “Here’s Johnny!” everyone?
