Social media proved to be one gigantic platform for pouring of all sorts of emotions on the occasion of Mother's Day. Myriad emotions flew on the internet, as people poured their hearts out to discuss their bonding with mother or incidents related to mom on the special occasion.

Though Mother's Day has been an occasion of expressing emotions, pampering and gifting one's mother, National Geographic Magazine has revealed that the day has a dark history associated with it. The day was founded for mourning women to remember fallen soldiers and work for peace.

Anna Jarvis, from West Virginia held Mother's Day to improve sanitary conditions and also attend the wounded soldiers at the time of US Civil War.

From hilarious to heart-touching to caustic-social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Reddit were the one-stop spots where millions of people spoke about their bonding with their moms.

Facebook was replete with people of all age groups posting pictures of their mom coupled with an emotional thought associated with mom bonding. Indian website called ScoopWhoop identified various ways the kids call out their moms in parts of India while some websites picked a few interesting tattoos symbolizing the mom, which people got on their body.

Twitter had a field day as Mother's Day emerged as the trending topic over the weekend with tweeples wishing their moms and also talking about the influence their mother had on their lives. People used #sorrymom to confess their hilarious sins during childhood while some took #missmymom to pay homage to their dead mother.

A blogger named ShinnyDog's emotional piece on how he hates Mother's Day was up-voted by several readers on Reddit. The blogger talked about how the day made his wife miserable as she got nostalgic about their dead daughter, on Mother's Day.

Celebrities too talked about their special bond on Mother's Day in a special way.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan talked about how his son's could be like their grandfather by following their idealism. Actors like Alia Bhatt to Hrithik Roshan to Akshay Kumar to filmmaker Karan Johar posted pictures with their mom to express their emotions. Arianna Huffington, founder of Huffington Post spoke of her mother, who was a pillar of strength in her life.
