Premier League Matchday 18 brought plenty of emotions to the fans, with the leader doing the homework and its pursuers watching them doing it with frustration. We’re getting close to completing the first round of the tournament with a clear favourite, Manchester City. While the rest of the team still try to figure out how to play against them and actually defeat the Blues.
We had some interesting matchups that ended with some drama while others were exactly the opposite and a total nightmare for the losing team. Just in case you missed any of Saturday's action, here is the summary of Premier League Matchday 18.
City with the best present
Manchester City is without any hesitation the best English team of the moment, having an outstanding season, dominating both their domestic tournaments and the Champions League, as well, but there are some people that still believe they're not an unbeatable team.
Of course, they aren't, but even when they have a big challenge ahead, they know how to overcome it and advance. An example of that was Saturday's main event when we witnessed a clash between the Citizens and the inspired Tottenham Hotspurs trying to end Pep Guardiola’s squad victory streak.
Well, that didn't happen since the Sky Blues totally dominated the game from the very beginning. City threatened on various occasions to open up the score before İlkay Gündoğan scored the first goal of the game.
Ever since that, the Lilywhites were stagnant in front of Ederson Moraes’s net.
City scored three more times in the second half thanks to Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling (2) to remain as the leader of the Premier League with 52 points. Christian Eriksen scored a late goal for Tottenham to put the final score of the game.
Good matchday for the pursuers, but City complicates the haunting
The current third and fourth-ranked teams on the leaderboard won their Saturday games by the same result (1-0) against Southampton and Newcastle, respectively, hoping to see Manchester City fall in front of Tottenham - but we all know what happened in that match.
With those victories, Chelsea records 38 points and Arsenal is one spot behind them, accumulating 33.
Manchester United, on the other hand, beat West Bromwich at The Hawthorns to 1-2 thanks to Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lindgard and now is the lone pursuer of its neighbour, Manchester City with 41 points.
This Monday the action continues with Everton hosting Swansea City at Goodison Park to give this matchday a closure.
