Arsene Wenger is said to be very interested in signing a new left-back, who can replace Nacho Monreal. Although the Spaniard has been solid at the left side of the defensive block, he is not getting any younger. The 31-year-old is currently first choice for Wenger, but his form in the first half of the season was very disappointing. Arsenal have yet to offer a new contract for Kieran Gibbs, who is natural replacement at the left-back position. That’s why Arsene Wenger is eyeing a deal to bring new left-back to his squad.
Wenger looking for improvements
The Gunners are chasing Spanish wonder kid Jose Gaya, who is currently playing for La Liga side, Valencia. Gaya, who is just 21 years old started his career as a striker, but his future coaches converted him into a left-back with huge success. He is said to be one of the biggest prospects in Europe, that’s why it will be very tough to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. Gaya was a reported target of Real Madrid, but he decided to extend his contract with Valencia to keep him in the club until 2020. With Valencia currently fourth from the bottom of the table, reports suggest that young Spaniard would love to change his club and move to the Emirates.
Wenger to stay at the Emirates
According to one of the best sports journalists in Britain, John Cross, Arsenal are hoping bring a new left-back in the next summer transfer window. He is also adding that Arsene Wenger is planning to extend his contract and stay at the Emirates Stadium for two more years. Blessed with fantastic pace, great technical abilities, and an intelligence on the ball make him very similar to his compatriot Hector Bellerin.
The Gunners are not the only club interested in highly-rated defender. The Spaniard is eyeing by Pep Guardiola, who will love to bring his countryman to the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens would like to improve their left-back position, as Gael Clichy isn’t good enough for Pep Guardiola. For a such young player, 21-year-old Gaya has shown tremendous maturity in his debut seasons at Mestalla.
