January transfer window is almost here so it’s time for all the Football clubs to start hunting for new players. Let’s take a look at Arsenal and their priorities in the next window. When the January break opens, Arsene Wenger is likely to bring a new defender to his club. Despite the presence of Mathieu Debuchy, Hector Bellerin and Carl Jenkinson at the right-back position, it is still the biggest problem for the French coach. There is also a big possibility, that one or two players could be heading out of the club.

Will Arsene Wenger find a backup option for Bellerin?

Hector Bellerin is staying in London, as he recently extended his long-term contract and is a very important player for the club. The 21-year old Spaniard is thought to be one of the best players at his position, with one of the biggest potential. There can’t be many defenders, who play such an important role for his team. His pace is something special, but what he brings in offense is just as valuable.

The problem for Arsene Wenger is that there is a big difference in quality between the young Spaniard and his other two replacements. Hector Bellerin is currently injured and The Gunners miss him badly, as Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy can’t fill the boots of the academy product.

Huge gap in quality

In the first game after Bellerin was ruled out, Arsene Wenger decided to give a chance to Jenkinson, who had spent 18 months on loan at West Ham United, before a terrible knee injury, who ruled his out of the 2015/16 campaign. The 24-year old started the match against Manchester United but we can’t tell that Arsene Wenger was very happy with his performance.

He got his strengths, as he is probably the best crosser at Arsenal, but The Gunners have a different style of play and there is no need for high, floated crosses.

In the last game against Bournemouth, Wenger changed his mind and gave a chance to Mathieu Debuchy, who spent a 2015/16 campaign on loan at French club – Bordeaux. Unfortunately, just 14 minutes into his first start in a year, the experienced defender was withdrawn with an injury.
