Manmohan Singh was the prime minister of India for ten years from 2004-2014. A book on his term as prime minister by his principal media advisor Dr. Sanjaya Baru was published in 2014 and had brought out the infirmities of Manmohan Singh and his subservience to the Nehru-Gandhi family. The book had created a storm at that time, and Manmohan Singh lost the election. Now a Film on his life as the PM based on the book "The Accidental Prime Minister: the making and unmaking of Manmohan Singh" is ready and will be released soon. Rediff.com has reported that the principal role in the film of the ex-PM will be portrayed by Anupam Kher while his wife Gursharn Kaur will be played by Divya Seth.

Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher is a Kashmiri and a well-known character actor in Bollywood. He is also a strong proponent of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Narendra Modi, who had won the local elections just after his victory in the general election. Kher is known as a man with an anti-Congress party stand. His playing the role of Manmohan Singh has raised eyebrows. Anupam Kher has countered these thoughts by stating that first and foremost he is an actor and will love to do any role.

The book

At that time in 2014, when the book was released, the prime minister's office had gone into a tizzy and given the Bharatiya Janata Party another weapon to attack the ruling Congress and Dr. Manmohan Singh.

The book written by an insider who was a close confidant of the PM brings out the fact that Manmohan Singh had to reconcile that he was just a mouthpiece of the Gandhi family.

The contents of the book, which was written by Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Dr. Singh's former media adviser, were damning. The book was published in 2014 when a general election was underway.

Once again the film will be released when a general election is looming ahead in 2019. The film is expected to hit the theaters early next year. The Times of India has published the first poster of the film.

The film

The film is produced by Sunil Bohra who had earlier earned a name for the film "Gangs of Wasseypur" and will be directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte.

With a professional like Anupam Kher playing Dr. Manmohan Singh, the film is likely to generate a lot of interest. Another important role of Dr. Baru will be played by Akshaye Khanna, son of famed actor Vinod Khanna. The film will most likely be cleared by the censor board unlike "Lipstick under my Burkha" which was initially denied a certificate.

Propaganda film and Gandhi family

Many are assuming that it may be a propaganda film financed by the BJP. The director and Anupam Kher have vehemently denied this.

Considering the fact that Anupam Kher is a consummate actor and the producer a man who makes offbeat films, the chance of the film being a propaganda movie can be taken with a pinch of salt. The film may not be to the liking of Manmohan Singh, as it will portray him as a man who was subservient to his masters-the Gandhi family.
