Ten years sounds like a long time, but it’s actually not. This is a list of films that were released in 2007. They turn ten years old this year. It’s staggering. There must be some theories out there by some scientist guys about how quickly time seems to pass relative to how quickly it actually passes or something, however that whole mess works, because it does not feel like ten years since “Transformers” first hit cinemas.
‘Transformers’ turns ten the year its fifth instalment is released
Big budget (very big budget) sci-fi action pic “Transformers” was released in cinemas back in 2007, launching a gargantuan franchise that releases its fifth part “The Last Knight” this year, having released its other sequels over the course of the past decade: “Revenge of the Fallen” in 2009, “Dark of the Moon” in 2011, and “Age of Extinction” in 2014. In that time, Shia LaBeouf left the franchise to become a psychopath. That all happened within these ten years and it’s crazy.
“Superbad” came out ten years ago, launching a multitude of careers, primarily that of Seth Rogen.
It feels like we’ve definitely experienced more than ten years’ worth of Seth Rogen comedies since “Superbad” was released in 2007, but the teenagers-will-stop-at-nothing-to-get-alcohol-for-a-party-so-they-can-sleep-with-the-girls-they-like comedy is just ten years old. And we’ve since been treated to “Pineapple Express,” “The Green Hornet,” “Bad Neighbours” and its sequel, “50/50,” “The Night Before,” “Sausage Party,” and not to mention his recent forays into directing with “This is the End” and “The Interview” (the last one less exciting because it almost led to World War III).
Will Smith took on Richard Matheson’s ‘I Am Legend’ in 2007
Will Smith was the last man on Earth in a deserted New York City where he fought off the hordes of zombie mutant things that only come out at night with no companion other than his trusty canine way back in 2007.
While it feels much more recent that, “I Am Legend” was one of Smith’s last films as an A-list star before his career went down the tubes. “Men in Black 3” was still good, but “Focus” showed signs he was going downhill and the dreadful “Collateral Beauty” just confirmed that. Not to mention he was in “Suicide Squad.” *shudder*
Pixar’s “Ratatouille” is ten years old this year. It doesn’t seem like a 2007 Film, it feels like more of a recent Pixar film, but since then we’ve had such masterpieces as “Up,” “Toy Story 3” and “Inside Out.” “Juno” was released in 2007, a heart-warming indie comedy-drama about teen pregnancy, and that means that Diablo Cody’s career is also ten years old this year, a career that’s taken exactly ten years to dwindle away into cr*p.
Also released in 2007 were “300,” launching Zack Snyder’s career and leading us to the overwhelming gloomy, overwhelmingly long “Justice League.” It’s nice how things work out. Also, “Knocked Up,” which contributed to kicking off Rogen’s career, and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” the third film in four years, whereas this year we’re getting the second “Pirates” movie in ten years. The very first “Paranormal Activity” is ten years old, too. It’s crazy, right?
