Louis CK is returning with two new standup specials just two years after his Comedy Store gig featuring his famous “Wizard of Oz” and “So I called the bat man” routines. Netflix really knows how to draw in heavyweight talent. They’re making a new movie with Martin Scorsese starring none other than Robert De Niro and Al freakin’ Pacino, and new shows from the likes of Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron.

They’ve also got standup specials from Amy Schumer, Tracy Morgan, and Sarah Silverman on the way in the next three months, and after dropping a surprise Bill Burr special a few weeks ago (the brilliant “Walk Your Way Out”), it has now been announced that Louis CK, arguably the leading comedic mind of our generation, will be bringing two new standup comedy specials to the streaming service this year.

The first special will simply be titled ‘2017’

CK’s first special of the year will simply be titled “2017,” and was filmed in Washington DC. CK’s material tends to be political (“When you have bacon in your mouth, it doesn’t matter who’s President”), so the show will probably cover the tumultuous landscape of America right now, especially given that it was performed in DC and CK is very, very anti-Trump.

“Louis CK: 2017” will premiere on Netflix on 4 April.

The second special is yet to be titled and its official release date is also yet to be announced, but it will be up on Netflix before the year is out. In the meantime, CK has been very busy. On hiatus from his phenomenal FX show “Louie,” which is less a sitcom and more a collection of absurdist avant-garde short films, he has self-financed and produced his web series “Horace and Pete,” in which he stars alongside Alan Alda (who’s great in it) and Steve Buscemi, and also produces the Zach Galifianakis-starring clown comedy “Baskets” and the Pamela Adlon-starring single mother comedy “Better Things,” both for FX.

CK is also voicing a lead character and executive producing, alongside Albert Brooks, whose voice work can be recognised from “The Simpsons” and “Finding Nemo,” an animated series about police officers for TBS called “The Cops” (which may or may not be a working title, as was previously announced).
