Supergirl is flying to The CW. It’s a plot twist in the world of entertainment: the CWhas picked up its first new TV Show. After lots of speculation, it’s official that Supergirl will move from CBS to sister network the CW. The Greg Berlanti’s drama has been renewed for a second season.
The pickup, which comes close to the Upfronts, creates a wider DC’s world inside the CW. Now they own four Series, all from producer Greg Berlanti, asSupergirlis set to air back to back with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash and Arrow. There has been already a crossover between The Flash and Supergirl on CBS, and the viewers are likely prepared for a follow-up.
The reception of the meeting between Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin was both successful rating-and-critics-wise.
As various sources stated, a pickup was connected with finding a way to produce an expensive show as Supergirl with a high license fee. Apparently, it’s certain that the production will move to Vancouver, where the other Greg Berlanti DC’s shows are shooting. The CW is co-owned by CBS and Warner Bros, so there is also a strong tie between the two networks. The CW president Mark Pedowitz also commented about regretting not going after the project when it was sold.
Last year, there were rumours that as Ringer, the pilot would have been picked up by the CW, instead of the CBS. In the end, this didn’t happen, and the show started last November, premiering with big numbers and critical praise.
After a solid start, the show got softer results, but remained a great performer, ranking as the No.1 new CBS drama, and No.4 between the new tv shows. It has average ratings of nearly 10 millions, but CBS’s audience is slightly different from the young-skewing DC’s show. CBS also cancelled CSI: Cyber, pulling the plug to a decade of this franchise.
But how is The CW going to add this show to his schedule? Probably Supergirl just “killed” the chances of one of the pilots. Their scheduling is going to be a lot complicated,The CW has renewed almost all its line-up. When will we watch Supergirl again? We will find it out next week.
