Former US President Barack Obama has responded to the School Shooting that occurred last week in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead. The students that survived this attack have been more outspoken in the ensuing gun debate than the survivors of previous attacks, and it’s making a real difference. They’ve gotten current President Donald Trump to ban bump stocks (and also reconsider arming teachers with guns, unfortunately).

After most school shootings, the Republicans manage to sweep any chance of debate under the rug, but that won’t wash with the Parkland students, and Obama has commended them for it.

He said, “Young people have helped lead all our great movements,” and added that watching these “smart” and “fearless” kids speak out against their government and its unfair legislation is “inspiring.” He concluded, “We’ve been waiting for you. And we’ve got your backs.”

Obama has always fought the US gun laws

Obama has always been an avid supporter of tighter gun control laws and he spent his entire eight-year term in the White House pushing for harder gun restrictions – particularly around the time of the horrific Sandy Hook shooting – but he had no luck. The NRA are always putting money into the pockets of the Republican officials in Congress to ensure that they get to keep their guns and any school shooters out there get to keep theirs, too.
