An upcoming “Star Trekspin-off show starring Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard is starting to come together. Two more actors have been added to the cast as regulars, in the form of two stars from several cult favourite series.

New stars for ‘Star Trek’ spinoff series

TVLine reports that Santiago Cabrera, known for playing Isaac Mendez on “Heroes” and Lancelot on “Merlin” is joining the cast. Other roles played by him include “Dexter,” “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “The Musketeers” and he more recently starred as Darius Tanz in the cancelled science fiction show “Salvation.”

The other cast member is Michelle Hurd, who has starred in “Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Blindspot,” “Lethal Weapon (TV),” and also featured in the Marvel Netflix series “Daredevil” (DA Samantha Reyes) and “Jessica Jones.”

Little is known of the new spin-off series

So far, Hurd and Cabrera’s roles in the new show are unknown and no storyline has yet been announced.

The only thing that is certain is that Sir Patrick Stewart will play his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

There’s some news about directorship of the show, however, with Jonathan Frakes (who starred in the “Next Generation” series) directing some of the episodes. Hanelle Culpepper, who is involved in “Star Trek: Discovery,” will be directing the first two episodes of the new spin-off, which will make her the first female director in the 50 years or more history of the “Star Trek” universe.

The new "Star Trek" series won’t be a one-off, either, as Digital Spy quotes Stewart as saying they are possibly set up for three years of the Picard series and that if there will be a Film, it is a long way off.

News about 'Star Trek: Discovery'

While the new Picard spin-off is still untitled and without a premiere date, fans can still enjoy “Star Trek: Discovery” in the US on CBS All Access and in the UK on Netflix the following day. Meanwhile, according to Den of Geek, “Discovery” has already been officially renewed for a third season.

Of interest to note, Michelle Paradise (“The Originals” and “Exes & Ohs”) is joining Alex Kurtzman as a new member of the creative staff. Kurtzman recently said in a statement that Paradise joined the team halfway through season 2 and thoroughly impressed with her knowledge of the “Trekuniverse. He said that her grasp of story detail and character, as well as her focus and drive were already essential in the show. Kurtzman added he is proud to say they are officially running “Discovery” together.
