Rocketman” is set to be a biopic of Elton John’s life and it seems Taron Egerton has been perfectly scripted into the role. A featurette for the new biopic was released on Tuesday, showing Egerton in his role as Elton, both physically resembling him and giving an uncanny, pitch-perfect performance of John’s work.

The featurette included below takes us behind the scenes of the new biopic, which will premiere on 31 May. There’s no lip-syncing in this Film and any fans who were worried that Egerton couldn’t handle the singing in his role were quickly reassured, as he perfectly performs Elton’s 1971 classic song, “Tiny Dancer.”

‘Rocketman’ is the ‘greatest joy’ in Egerton’s life

Taron Egerton says in the featurette that Elton John’s songs have “defined moments” in the lives of listeners and that making the film has been the “greatest joy” of his life.

Egerton has previously been seen in “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” and “The Smoke,” but the actor outdoes himself in this new role.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ director involved in ‘Rocketman’

As reported by the Huffington Post, “Rocketman” was directed by Dexter Fletcher, who has experience bringing music icons such as John to the big screen. After Bryan Singer was fired in 2017 from directing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Fletcher stepped in, while Singer did, however, retain the sole directorial credit.

Bohemian Rhapsody,” told the story of Freddie Mercury and the rise of the rock band Queen, and has done extremely well at the box office, earning over $800 million (£612 million) worldwide. That biopic also received an amazing five Academy Award nominations, with “Mr.

Robot” actor, Rami Malek, in the lead.

Speaking of Egerton in his lead role in “Rocketman,” Fletcher said he was an actor of “incredible range,” adding that he himself is so convincing, but that his voice is “incredible.”

As reported by Geek Tyrant, Fletcher had previously said of the film that it is a “musical fantasy” rather than a biopic.

He said they had Elton John’s songs and life story, or at least a part of it, but it is a fantasy version of his real life. Fletcher said at the time that he was hoping to create something to entertain, “inform and amaze” viewers.

Other ‘Rocketman’ stars

Rocketman” also stars Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot” and “Snowpiercer”) as songwriter Bernie Taupin, manager John Reid is played by Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) and Elton’s mother, Sheila Eileen, is played by Bryce Dallas Howard (“Black Mirror”). The biopic “Rocketman” is set to premiere in cinemas on 31 May 2019.
