While originally the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” series was wholesome and based on the Archies comic of the same name, the latest version of her story is much “darker.” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” version is based on the scarier comic series of that name. The new Netflix show is intended to be a companion series to the teen show “Riverdale.”
Deadline Hollywood puts the new series in the same vein as “The Exorcist” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” which gives us an idea of how scary the Netflix show will be. The executive producer of the new series, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has tweeted a teaser image for the upcoming series showing Sabrina’s signature hairstyle, a pair of red lips and a cat silhouette.
Dark Sabrina show and a new poster
The cat in the new poster for the show is shown in silhouette and as mentioned by Deadline, it is unknown whether this kitty can talk. The new Warner Bros. TV series will feature Sabrina as she wrestles with her dual nature as a half mortal and half witch person. She will be fighting against evil forces threatening herself, her family and the daytime world that humans inhabit.

The executive producer had previously tweeted an image of the cat, meant to portray Salem, with a caption introducing it as Greendale’s latest resident.
He ended up by saying "All Hail Salem!"
Ladies and gentlemen, meet #Greendale’s latest resident. All hail, Salem! #sabrina, #netflix pic.twitter.com/XZ1dNPgvja

Among the many amusing replies to their tweet was an amusing gif of Sabrina's original cat, sent by @TheIronistix, saying the cat must be sardonic and "obviously animatronic."

Kiernan Shipka in the role of Sabrina
Work on “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” started in February this year and the leading role is played by Kiernan Shipka (“Mad Men”).
NME quote Aguirra-Sacasa as saying they were all big fans of the actress’ work and when trying to decide who should play the role of Sabrina, her name was on all their wish lists.
I genuinely hope this is good. I love the character of Sabrina and Kiernan Shipka is always fun to watch. pic.twitter.com/ngMaChnzNS

However, the executive producer did go on to explain that this will be a more macabre and darker version of Sabrina and that they are looking forward to people seeing Kiernan as she makes the iconic character all her own.
Jon Goldwater of Archie Comics said he was excited that Shipka will be playing the role of Sabrina. He said he has no doubts that she will portray the courage, strength and boldness that made the Sabrina character a fan favourite.
Other cast members in the new Sabrina Netflix show will include Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, Tati Gabrielle, Michelle Gomez and Chance Perdomo.
