Cher revealed the fact that she has recorded a new album including her interpretation of the most popular ABBA songs. This comes after her brief appearance in the Film “Mamma Mia 2.”
Speaking on the Today Show, Cher, 72, said that after she sang “Fernando” in the movie, she decided it would be a fun idea to do a full album including ABBA songs. Cher went on to say that the songs won’t be what fans expect, as she has covered them in a different way.
Cher and ‘Mamma Mia 2’
As reported by the Guardian, people were surprised when Cher was cast as the mother of Meryl Streep’s character in the film, who is three years younger than she is.
She wore a blonde wig during her role in “Mamma Mia 2.”
In the trailer below, Cher can be seen performing the ABBA classic “Fernando” alongside actor Andy Garcia with glimpses of the other stars. Garcia plays the role of the hotel manager. Executive producer Tom Hanks said that everyone was in awe and somewhat nervous of Cher.

Film receives mixed reviews
Wales Online reports that mixed reviews are coming in since the film premiered on Monday night.
They quote the Hollywood Reporter reviewer as saying the film was the “cinematic equivalent of a B-side” with less known ABBA songs featured. However, Press Association’s Damon Smith, while saying the film doesn’t quite match up to the first movie, but that audiences that loved “Mamma Mia” won’t care.
Daily Mail reporter Jan Moir went on to praise former “Downton Abbey” star Lily James, who plays the role of a young Donna in the film, as saying if the new movie doesn’t make a huge star of her, she would eat her glitterball earrings.

Getting the role in ‘Mamma Mia 2’
“Mamma Mia 2” premiered in London on Monday night and Sky News spoke to Cher about her role and how she got it. It turns out the Universal Studio head used to be her agent and they are the best of friends.
He called Cher and simply told her that she was doing “Mamma Mia 2” and then hung up the phone. The veteran singer went on to say that it had been “beyond fun” filming the movie, adding that she had never been in a film with less tension. Cher went on to recommend the film, saying it is a fun film at a time when we all need some fun.
While Cher is now 72, she still performs live and appears in concert residencies in Las Vegas and Washington DC in 2018. She is set to tour Australia this coming autumn.
