“Rogue One,” the new “Star Wars” prequel directed by Gareth Edwards is about the Rebels’ plot to steal the Death Star plans that is the impetus of “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” had its world premiere last night and bunch of Celebrities went along. After the Film, they took to Twitter to tell the world what they thought of the film. Here are their tweets.
Famous fanboys loved the film
Chris Hardwick, host of “Talking Dead” (and “Talking Bad” and “Talking Saul” and “Talking Preacher” and probably more to come), tweeted that “Rogue One” was “absolutely incredible,” and implored his followers to “see it as soon as you can!” Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight Schrute from “The Office”) posted that the film was “AMAZING! Super fun & exciting. Ties in w/episode 4 perfectly.”
Self-proclaimed nerd and director of “Clerks” Kevin Smith began his tweet review of “Rogue One” with a “Star Wars”-referencing statement of shock, “Holy Sith!” He said the film was “unbelievably wonderful” and that it was as “great” as “The Empire Strikes Back,” which is the best entry in the series according to the general consensus of the fanbase.
Smith added that the film is an “excellent chapter” in the “Star Wars” saga.
Wil Wheaton (who nerds knew from “Star Trek” before everyone knew him from “The Big Bang Theory”) wrote: “The last time I loved a Star Wars movie as much as I loved #RogueOne, it was 1977.” 1977 is when the first one came out! They’re saying it’s actually that good!
The film is projected to be a box office hit
Disney (the distributors and primary money-makers behind “Rogue One”) has had a fantastic year financially. With hits such as “The Jungle Book,” Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Doctor Strange,” the animated “Moana,” “Finding Dory,” and “Zootopia,” Disney has seen more returns at the box office this year than any other company in the history of the world.
Impressive stuff.
While “Rogue One” isn’t expected to make “Force Awakens” money (which is over $2 billion), Deadline reports that the film is expected to gross between $280 million and $350 million worldwide during its opening weekend, so it’s not just making pocket change. And at this point, the vaults at Disney are fit to burst. The money “Rogue One” makes will just be used to gold-plate the vault.
