David Bowie died at age 69 on the 10th of January 2016, which happened to be two days after his release of Blackstar. The artist was posthumously nominated alongside Adele, Calvin Harris, Coldplay and Jess Glynne for the BBC Music British Artist Award.
Who won the Award last night?
This award was one of the two awards Adele won last year, the second award being the best live performance, and it looks like she wants a repeat. However Adele was unable to attend the event last year but hopefully we shall get to see her next week.
When and where will the event be held?
The winner will announced next week in ExCel London. Fearne Cotton, Claudia Winkleman and Gemma Cairney will host this event on the 12th of December. You will also be able to watch this event on BBC One.
What are all of the awards at this event?
At this event there will be five awards in total. These being:
- BBC Music British Artist of the Year
- Song of the Year
- BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year
- BBC Radio Live Lounge Performance of the Year
- BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year
The last two awards on the list above are new for this year. The nominees for the BBC Radio Live Lounge Performance of the Year include Christine and The Queens, Craig David, Emeli Sande, The 1975 Live Lounge Symphony and Usher.
Each performance happened this year whether that be a cover or a song that they have released themselves.
Those who were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year include 25 by Adele, A Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay, Alone in the Universe by Jeff Lynne, Love & Hate by Michael Kiwanuka and 50 by Rick Astley. Blackstar, David Bowie's final release could have been included in this award but got taken over by Adele's 25 and Astley's 50.
There will be performances from Robbie Williams, Craig David and John Legend at the ceremony as well as other Celebrities.
After the announcement last week we know that Izzy Bizu, a pop singer, will be awarded the Introducing Artist of the Year.
No nominees for Song of the Year have been announced yet.
