Johnny Depp is set to hook up with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry in the supergroup Hollywood Vampires, as they perform live in California next month. The intriguing musical group are also due to release an album in September, with a stellar list of collaborators among the credits including the legendary Sir Paul McCartney.

Star-studded live line-up

Also on stage for the live shows will be ex- Guns N' Roses bass player Duff McKagan and his fellow band member on drums, Matt Sorum.

Bolstering those formidable talents will be two musicians who regularly play with the main protagonists in the new band. Cooper's touring guitarist Tommy Henrickson is set to join them in addition to Bruce Witkin on bass guitar, who has regularly collaborated musically with Depp in the past.

Depp is an old hand as a musician

Golden Globe winner, Depp, is no stranger to the life of a musician having taken a keen interest in the profession throughout his acting career. He played slide guitar on the Oasis track “Fade In-Out” from the 1997 album “Be Here Now”. Chocolat and Once Upon a Time in Mexico included the 52-year-old American both in an acting role in the films themselves and playing acoustic guitar on the soundtracks.

Besides featuring on his friend Shane MacGowan’s debut solo album, Depp was also briefly a member of the alternative rock band ‘P’ in the 1990s.

Famous collaborators on the album

Hollywood Vampires’ self-titled album boasts quite a pedigree in terms of both the star names featuring and the tracks being covered. Besides the famous Beatles’ popstar featuring on vocals and playing the bass guitar on “Come and Get It”, other tracks featured include:

  • Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and formerly Nirvana, playing drums on “One / Jump Into The Fire”
  • Joe Walsh from The Eagles playing guitar on “Whole Lotta Love”
  • The late Sir Christopher Lee adding his distinctive narrative tones to the track “The Last Vampire”
  • Guns N’ Roses’ Slash on guitar for “School’s Out / Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2″

Other familiar tracks on the album include “My Generation”, “Jeepster” and “Itchycoo Park”.

Hollywood Vampires will play live on two dates, September 16th and 17th, in West Hollywood, California at the famous The Roxy Theatre venue. With only two shows scheduled in America, tickets are sure to be in high demand when they go on sale from 14th August.
