5 top movies coming to Netflix on 1 January 2019

Netflix will be streaming several classic and award-winning drama, thriller and fantasy films just in time for the New Year.

Netflix is always coming up with Netflix Original series and films [VIDEO]. However, they also add cinematic greats from years gone by on a regular basis.

The following films are highly rated by critics [VIDEO] with some winning multiple awards and are heading to Netflix on 1 January 2019.

The first is a Film starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett as a couple travelling to Morocco and the chain of events that comes from an incident during their stay. There's a moving and beautiful fantasy film, described as an adult fairy tale and a cult classic movie starring John Travolta, Bruce Willis, and Uma Thurman. There is also a thrilling drama involving Bruce Willis and set in Nigeria and the moving story of a German boy who makes friends with a Jewish boy in a concentration camp in Germany.

'Babel' (2006) - Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Gael García Bernal

This Paramount movie tells the story of an American couple (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) travelling in Morocco. A tragic incident involving the couple starts a chain of interlinking events that affect four families in four different countries throughout the world. There are two young Moroccan goatherds, a deaf Japanese teenager and her father, and a Mexican nanny who gets into trouble for taking the children over the border for her son’s wedding without permission.

'Pan's Labyrinth' (2006) - Ivana Baquero, Sergi Lopez, Maribel Verdu

Set during the Spanish civil war, this moving and beautiful film has been described as a fairy tale for adults. The film features Ofelia, who moves in with her stepfather, a brutal and authoritarian military officer. Ofelia finds a mysterious labyrinth in which she meets a faun who helps her to save herself and her unwell mother. The young girl ends up in the middle of a ferocious battle between good and evil.

'Pulp Fiction' (1994) - John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson

This cult classic won many awards and starred Uma Thurman, John Travolta, and Bruce Willis. Four different stories intertwine in the lives of two mob hit men, a gangster’s wife, a boxer and a couple of diner bandits. A dance sequence between Thurman and Travolta has proved to be a classic scene.

'Tears of the Sun' (2003) - Bruce Willis, Cole Hauser, Monica Bellucci

Bruce Willis stars again, this time in a film set in Nigeria. A West African president’s family has been assassinated, and there is widespread civil unrest. A top-secret US team heads to the jungle in an attempt to rescue an American doctor, acting as a missionary. The doctor then insists that the team rescue her charges. The team then becomes the target of rebel attacks.

'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' (2008) - Asa Butterfield, David Thewlis, Rupert Friend, Vera Farmiga

This film is set during WWII at a German concentration camp. When a man is sent to work there as a commandant, his wife and eight-year-old son move with him. The movie tells the story of a forbidden friendship between the boy and a Jewish boy, wearing striped clothing, on the other side of the barbed wire fence and the unexpected and startling consequences of that friendship.
