At least six people have been killed and more than 100 people have been injured by an Amtrak train that came off its rails in Washington state. It was travelling down a brand new high speed rail route that was only opened yesterday. This was its maiden voyage. It didn’t exactly go as planned. Going over a bridge over the Interstate 5, 13 out of the 14 carriages of the Amtrak train came off the rails and flew off the bridge, raining down on the cars below.
The investigators who are looking into the Amtrak train crash have noted the speed of the train in looking into the details of the incident.
The train was travelling at a rapid speed of 80mph, going around a bend where the Speed Limit is 30mph. So, the train was haring around a curve at almost triple the speed limit. No wonder it came off its rails. Someone’s certainly going to be getting into trouble for that one.
Transport investigators’ ‘hearts go out’ to crash victims
The transport investigators have released a statement to say that their “preliminary indications” point to this gross case of speeding. They also said, “Our hearts go out to everyone who is affected by this very tragic accident.” We’ll have more on the investigation as it develops.
