One of the scariest things that can happen to a person is a natural calamity - something in the line of a tornado. Hurricane Harvey hit landfall near Corpus Christi late on Friday as a category 4 hurricane with maximum winds of 130 mph. This effectively made it the first category 4 storm in the US since 2004 when Charley menaced Florida. Texas, on the other hand, had not endured such a powerful hurricane since Carla in 1961.

The number of counties on alert was increased from 30 to 50 and rainfall is expected to keep falling well into Wednesday, thus ensuring flooding. There is already a blackout affecting over to million people in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey and there are fears that if the flooding reaches the Gulf of New Mexico and manages to damage the petroleum plants, chemicals or oil may get into the water and have catastrophic damage to life and property.

Hurricane Harvey's known death toll rises to two

Hurricane Harvey’s exact details on the number of known injuries and deaths remain unclear at the moment and the information currently available mentioned the number of deaths to be two.

The first one was a man who got caught in a house fire and the second reported death is a woman who drowned. The deceased had left in her car on Saturday and at some point got out of the car and later her body was found floating in the water by her neighbors.

People had been warned not to leave their houses once the flooding started - particularly if they decided to remain and wait out the storm instead of evacuating. This is the first time in 13-years that Texas has experienced a Hurricane of this magnitude.

Trump working to stay on top of the matter

President trump tweeted on Saturday that he was “Closely monitoring #Hurricane Harvey from Camp David. We are leaving nothing to chance. City, State and Federal Govs.

working great together!”

He is said to be trying the best he can to not let his presidency be marred by bad disaster management of the hurricane as happened with one of his predecessors, President Bush, whose presidency has the dark shadow of Hurricane Katrina in its wake.

With Trump's presidency already marred by numerous scandals, some even involving the Russians and election manipulation he does not need bad ratings from this. That fact should serve as enough motivation to make sure he keeps abreast of the situation and puts the best and brightest on the ground to work on solutions for Americans in the line of the hurricane.
