The first trailer for “Avengers: Endgame” unveils the world after the Thanos snap, the genocidal smackdown. The genesis of the name has all the grim portents written all over it, and the first images show the remaining superheroes in a desperate bid to defeat the gargantuan main baddie. It also seems that a majority of characters which had been turned to ashes during the Infinity War will again rise like the proverbial Phoenix from the ashes.

The final showdown

Half of the living characters are gone, and Tony Stark is also seen in his death throes in space.

The Avengers hangars are empty, and Bruce Banner is staring at the pictures of the dead, missing and friends. There is a theory that since most characters have been defeated, it will be Captain America who will make a last-ditch effort to prevent the apocalypse but again this is only a theory, and the trailer does not give any hint.

Thanos can be seen for a fleeting moment, and the loss of characters means that the enemy is quite powerful and has achieved its designs.

The Endgame trailer also gives a shocking version of Captain America who looks like a faint shadow of his earlier persona-a devil may care attitude but also with a heart of gold and can do anything motto.

The Guardian wrote, "Yet even among the sprawling cast list, one performer stood out among the sprawling Spandex crowd, and that was the beard that Steve Rogers grew to symbolise his outlaw angst."

A Glimpse of a bleak world

This time Marvel is unflinching in giving the audience a sense of how depressing this world can become.

The characters in the trailer also do not generate a feeling of optimism, but still, we can sympathise with them because we know how they got there. The birth of Iron Man and its existential threat gave birth to the Age of Ultron. Civil War was the result of two opposing and bloated selfish individuals who do not know how to talk to one another.

MCU eventually proved the theory that people who kill monsters must be aware lest they also become a monster.

“Avengers: Endgame” will hit the screens in the United States on April 26, 2019. It was initially scheduled to be released in the US on May 3, 2019.

The flick features a virtual Who's Who of the Comic Book hero characters created by Marvel and includes Robert Downey Jr., as the Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America.
