Manchester United appear to be willing to let Luke Shaw leave the club in the upcoming winter transfer window. Shaw has fallen out of favor under Mourinho in recent months. At the moment Shaw finds himself far down the pecking order, behind the likes of Daley Blind, Ashley Young, and Matteo Darmian. Luke Shaw, who is 22 years old, last found himself in the starting line-up back in April of this year.
Leaving Manchester United
It appears that Shaw will be let out on loan at first, with the hope of recovering his form. There has been a break down in the working relationship between the player and the manager.
Both parties have suggested that having the player to leave in January is likely to be best for both parties. With a world cup coming up in 2018, Shaw will be eager to get some regular playing time under his belt to put himself back in contention and give himself any hope of getting back into the national team and to book himself a place on the plane to Russia.
Potential suitors
There are rumored to be a number of clubs that will be interested to sign Shaw when the transfer window opens in January. Southampton are believed to be the forerunners to secure their former academy player's signature. The Saints are set to face competition for this signature from the likes of Everton and Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettinho said to be a big fan of the young defender.
Man Utd for their part are normally unlikely to want to sell players to any of their direct rivals, however, due to the poor relationship between the manager and player, this is unlikely to be a large stumbling block in this instance.
Current season
United have been in good form this season and currently find themselves in second place behind their local rivals Man City.
Both clubs have strengthened heavily in the summer transfer window. It appears that United are lining up some potential signings during the winter transfer window. Mourinho is said to be keen to remove some fringe players to make way for some new signings. Shaw may just be the first in a number of squad players set to make way for new signings.
Man Utd for their part are said to be lining up moves for Real Madrid's Raphael Varane. Mesut Ozil from Arsenal has also recently been linked with a move over the summer to Old Trafford. Mourinho will be eager to close to gap on his local rivals Man City and will want to ensure that his side can pip Pep Guardiola to the league title this year.
