Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly beginning to lose patience with Manchester United for not offering him the managerial role as their season continues to disappoint. Mourinho has been without a club since December when he was sacked by Chelsea, and he has been touted as the odds on favourite to succeed current United manager Louis van Gaal whose reign slips further into jeopardy with every match.
“The special one” will be in Milan this weekend to watch Inter Milan, another one of his former clubs play and it’s believed that his presence there could be an opportunity for him and the club to thrash out a deal. Mourinho is fondly remembered in Milan after he won the treble which included the UEFA Champions League and made the club one of the strongest in Europe.
The Portuguese man is believed to have rejected offers from Roma and former club Real Madrid as he continues to wait for the Red Devils to make the call but he could soon stop rejecting offers as he’s made it clear that he’d prefer to get back into management sooner than later.
Representatives from Manchester United are understood to have told Mourinho to wait as they assess the situation with the current manager, United are a club that are known to give their managers time and it’s very likely that, that’s what they’re doing at the moment. David Moyes’ time at the club was disastrous but despite languishing in 7th place for most of the season, he didn’t lose his job until it was mathematically impossible for United the quality for the Champions League.
Manchester United recently lost their UEFA Europa League Round of 32 fixture to FC Midtjylland and this has put a lot more pressure on van Gaal since United were expected to win. The pressure on the Dutchman intensified noticeably when it was announced that Pep Guardiola would take over as manager at rival club Manchester City at the beginning of next season.
That revelation has led to strong calls for the Red Devils to appointment Mourinho.
Supporters of the club have already made their displeasure at the club’s situation clear as earlier this season, Manchester United scarves with Mourinho’s face were being sold outside Old Trafford. The Red Devils went on an eight game winless run starting in November and lasting the length of December which saw them draw four matches and lose the other four. Mourinho’s season at Chelsea was by no means nothing to be excited about however, he is a manager with a record that speaks for itself and he is still regarded as one of the best managers in the game today.
Mourinho has reportedly started giving instructions to the United brass and requested that the club sell Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, he is also very interested in bringing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane to the club should he take over. There is still a lot of belief that him taking over at Manchester United is inevitable and it is a matter of when rather than if.
