The 31 year old midfielder is known for his great passing skills. Playing for teams such as Monaco and Barcelona, he now plays for current Premier League champions, Manchester City. In 2009, he helped Barcelona score their third Champions League win ever when he came on as an emergency centre half. He also celebrated a second successive La Liga title with the Spanish team.

Didier Drogba- Ivory Coast

Didier Drogba has had a long Football career. Although he moved to Chelsea in 2004 for a record transfer fee, the forward attained his first professional contract at 21. In 2007 he won the Premier League Golden Boot Award which is given to the top goal scorer at the end of the Premier League season. This should come as no surprise as the Ivorian scored a whopping 33 goals between 2006 and 2007. Since 2006 he has been captain of Côte d’Ivoire. He currently plays for the most successful football club in Turkey, Galatasaray.

Emmanuel Adebayor- Togo

Emmanuel Adebayor has an impressive record. The 30 year old footballer plays for Tottenham Hotspur. He has also played for well known English teams such as Arsenal and Manchester City along with Spanish giants Real Madrid. When he played for Monaco in 2003 he scored 7 goals helping the French team reach the 2004 UEFA Champion League Final. 

Samuel Eto’o- Cameroon

Chelsea’s Samuel Eto’o is the fourth highest paid footballer and was the highest paid striker in the world last year.  Some view him as the best African player ever and that reverence is not without merit! He has played for Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona and Inter Milan. To date he has been African Player of The Year a record 4 times. That’s not all. With a mammoth 18 goals, he is the top African Nations Cup scorer of all time.

John Obi Mikel - Nigeria

The fourth highest paid footballer is John Obi Mikel. Playing for Chelsea the midfielder has also played for Lyn. Mikel played in the Nigeria under-20 team at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and won the Silver Ball for the second-best player at the tournament
