London hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards 2017, for the first time in over 20 years. The show always never fails to please with a glittering array of pop stars, who walked the red carpet, performed and were honoured for their talent by receiving nominations and awards.
The MTV EMA took place on 12th Novemeber 2017 and the ceremony at Wembley Arena in London was hosted by Rita Ora.
The show kicked off with a great performance by Eminem accompanied by Skylar Grey on the piano, with his new song, ‘Walk on Water’. Eminem also won an award for the Hip Hop category and was nominated for best live act. His single is from his up-coming album Revival which had no release date, but might possibly be released before the end of 2017.
Awards
The most awards won at the event were four by Shawn Mendez, and he was nominated for five gongs. Taylor Swift received the most nominations but was not awarded any awards, and did not perform. U2 were crowned the Global Icon this year at the EMAs.
Louis Tomlinson won the award for best UK and Ireland act and it is his first award since embarking on his solo music career after One Direction. Coldplay was awarded a gong for best rock act and Ed Sheeran received an award for best live act. Kendrick Lemar accepted the award for best video for his single, ‘humble’.
Performances
Demi Lovato performed, ‘Sorry, I’m not sorry.’ Camila Cabello performed, ‘Havana,’ and was awarded the award for best pop. Shawn Mendez performed ‘There’s nothing holdin’ me back.’.French Montana and Swae Lee performed their hit ‘Unforgettable’ with choreographed groups of dancers. Rita Ora also performed two songs. Stormzy performed his song, ‘Big for your boots,’ entering the stage at the start of the performance in a police car.
It was a high intensity performance, the star was raised up on an elevated stage and at the end an image of his face was projected on the screen of the stage adding extra effect. Stefflon Don performed, ‘Hurtin’ on the red carpet, in an all- white ensemble.
Red Carpet
The red carpet appearances presented a show of pop icon beauties. Demi Lovato wore a shirtless, plaid suit. Camila Cabello was dazzling in a pale pink Ralph and Russo sleeveless floor- length gown. Lana Del Rey looked sassy in a floral Gucci dress with a slit revealing her bare thigh. Rita Ora always on point, surprised everyone, by being snapped on the red carpet, dressed in a white robe and towel.
Overall, the show was packed with entertainment and the performances can be accessed on-line for people who missed the opportunity to watch the show.
