Musical film La La Land leads the Golden Globes nominations list, with a total of seven nods.

The musical, which stars previous Oscar nominees Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, is up for best musical or Comedy Film, whilst Stone and Gosling have also picked up nominations for their acting in the film. director of the film Damien Chazelle is up for best film director, best original screenplay, best score and best song as well.

La La Land is an American romantic comedy and follows a musician and actress who meet and fall in love. After La La Land won a total of EIGHT Critic Choice Awards, including best picture, best director and best original screenplay all eyes are on the film to do extremely well at the Golden Globes next year.

However the film will have stiff competition from in each of the categories it has received nods in.

Can La La Land dance its way to victory?

The film will face off with the coming of age drama Moonlight, which has a total of six nominations, including best drama film. For her role as a drug addict in the film, British actress Naomie Harris is nominated for best supporting actress. Fellow film Manchester by the Sea has five nominations including: best drama film, original screenplay and best director for Kenneth Lonergan, who will be up against Chazelle for the award, best actor for Casey Affleck and best supporting actress for Michele Williams.

Ryan Gosling is nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy picture and he will be going head to head with Ryan Reynolds for his role in the hit movie Deadpool, as well as Hugh Grant for his part in Florence Foster Jenkins, Jonah Hill for is role in War Dogs and Colin Farrell for his role in the movie The Lobster.

Gosling's co-star Emma Stone is nominated for best actress in a musical or comedy picture and she will go up against Meryl Streep for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins, Hailee Steinfeld for her role in The Edge of Seventeen, Lily Collins for her role in Rules Don't Apply and Annette Bening for her role in 20th Century Women.

The Golden Globes award ceremony will take place on January 8th 2017 and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
