A highly-anticipated Film adaptation of the 1980s TV series Fraggle Rock is finally in the works, and it already has a big star name to go with it: Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The 34-year-old Californian is set to be the main star of this adaptation that has been in the making for years now, so even though there is not a production schedule yet, Gordon-Levitt´s name will surely speed up the process to make the movie happen.
The actor has admitted to be a diehard fan of Jim Henson's puppets, acknowledging that "the first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock."
The talks to make a movie based on the hit show, which ran from 1983 to 1987 and was broadcasted on ITV in the UK, have been going on for over a decade, but the casting of an A-list star like Gordon-Levitt makes official that audiences will be able to enjoy a Fraggle Rock film very soon.
The actor will also serve as a producer for the movie, so one can only hope that his love for the original show will speed up the pre-production process and the film will start shooting at some point this year.
Fraggle Rock told the story of the Fraggles, cave creatures who were constantly facing the Doozers and the Gorgs. The show became immensely popular during its run and its fandom has been expanded over the years with subsequent generations, although the film version will surely attract new viewers who will become fans of the original show.
The movie will be produced by New Regency, The Henson Co. and Lisa Henson -Jim Henson's daughter. About this partnership, Gordon-Levitt declared that "collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved.
I'm grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project."
Jim Henson passed away in 1990. His legacy included companies like Jim Henson's Creature Shop, which creates figures for many movies and TV shows (including The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
Joseph Gordon-Levitt became famous at the age of 15 thanks to the TV show 3rd Rock from the Sun.
His most popular films include 10 Things I Hate About You, Inception, (500) Days of Summer and The Dark Knight Rises. In 2013, he made his debut as director with Don Jon, in which he also starred. He is currently filming a biopic about Edward Snowden, directed by Oliver Stone.
