Talk about fake news! US President Donald Trump has a framed copy of Time Magazine hanging on the walls of at least five of his clubs, with locations ranging from Florida to Scotland. A picture of him fills the entire cover and there are two headlines: “Donald trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” and “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS...EVEN TV!” But guess what: he made this cover himself.
Reporter discovered the fake
The fake Time cover was discovered by a reporter who happened to be on one of Trump’s properties. The reporter noticed the date was 1 March 2009.
There was no Time magazine published on 1 March 2009. There was one on 2 March, but Kate Winslet was on the cover, and oddly enough, Trump’s fake cover copies the same sub-headlines from that cover, except it adds a new one: “Global Warming: A New Age of Extinction.” Interesting.
Also, Time doesn’t use exclamation marks, but Trump gave the headlines of his Time cover exclamation marks, just like his tweets! The only time Trump has been featured on the cover of Time was in 1989 (why wouldn’t he just hang that one?). Trump wanted his guests to know he was a guy who matters and makes the cover of Time even though he’s just a reality TV star. It’s kind of sad when you think about it, how desperate he was for the approval of complete strangers (and still is).
