Trump issues gagging order
In one of his first actions since his inauguration President Trump issued gagging orders on employees at two federal agencies , the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and NPA ( National Parks Agency). It is well publicised that Trump is not a believer in reports of climate change. He has tweeted previously that climate change " was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive."
The rogue tweets
His decision , however, to gag employees at the above agencies has been spectacularly defied by an unknown employee at Badlands National Park , South Dakota. In a series of tweets yesterday stating facts about climate change such as " Today, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in the last 650,000 years" and that ocean acidity has increased by 30% since the Industrial Revolution.
The facts are irrefutable and are backed up by scientific research by agencies like the EPA .
Support from Twitter
Seeing the tweets on Twitter the Twittersphere went into overdrive. Followers for Badlands National Park increased phenomenally from 7k to an astonishing 69,000 in a matter of hours. The park was quickly renamed online BadAsslands for its' act of defiance and BreakingBadlands after the hit TV show Breaking Bad.
The tweets are removed
The moment of defiance was sadly short lived though because the tweets were deleted soon after and it was announced by a park official that the tweets "were the result of a former park employee who was not currently authorized to use the park's account."
The tweets are out there
For all the efforts of Trump and his administration to deny the existence of climate change by closing down those who claim it exists , the actions against the tweets of the rogue Badlands National Park tweeter may well have done more harm than good. The tweets still exist and have been retweeted thousands of times and more attention than they could have imagined has been drawn to scientific facts that may otherwise have been overlooked.
