Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bollywood epic movie Bajirao Mastani has not only successfully created waves at the worldwide box office and swept all awards but also created a fandom of its own. Let’s check out five lesser known facts about the movie and the cast.

Salman Khan & Aishwarya Rai Bachchan –

Before Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone signed on the dotted lines for the magnum opus, reports claim that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had waited long to begin the movie with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But due to their past relationship history their casting did not work out and the roles finally went to Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone who proved to be a magical choice for the characters of Bajirao and Mastani.

Language classes –

To speak Marathi with authenticity, the In my city girl Priyanka Chopra took a proper 15 days coaching to learn the language. Since she played the role of Kashibai, the wife of Peshwa Bajirao, her hard work was a must and it paid off quite well at the end with the movie being applauded by everyone.

Ranveer Singh shaved his head –

While most actors worship their hair, Ranveer Singh went bald to play Bajirao’s character to the core. Not only did he go bald but he also sported a moustache till the movie released and also took horse riding classes for the portrayal. Rather than going for artificial head cover he chose to go out all the way and shave all of his hair off which he reported to have said was more satisfactory than practical.

Deepika Padukone’s armour –

The armour sported by Deepika in the movie during the war scenes weighed a whooping 20 kg. Now that’s what we call a performing with a weight of your own. Deepika Padukone not only nailed the war scenes to perfection but also won hearts through her dedication.

Tanvi Azmi went bald too –

Tanvi Azmi the actress who played the role of Peshwa Bajirao’s mother also went bald for her character. Other Bollywood veterans who were considered for the role includes Shabana Azmi, Supriya Pathak and Dimple Kapadia.
