Pokémon Go is an augmented reality (AR) and location-based game developed by Niantic, in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, first released in July 2016 in selected countries. It was ranked as the most used and profitable mobile apps in 2016, seeing more than 500 million times worldwide users by the end of the year. Users can download the game on IOs and Android devices and create a free account. They will then be able to start seeking the famous virtual creatures called Pokémon, whose avatars will be displayed on a map based on the player's geographical location, and fight, catch and train them.

Satoru Iwata from Nintendo and Tsunekazu Ishihara from The Pokémon Company first thought about the concept in 2014, as a collaboration with Google on April Fools' Day that challenged users to “catch” the famous virtual creatures. The game's actual launch began on July 6 2016 in selected countries (Australia, New Zealand, and the United States)
