Nicolas Cage almost got the chance to play an actual Spidey, but now has made up for the loss and will be appearing as a "noir" Spider-Man (as a voice anyway) in the upcoming Sony animated movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” The Film will star a “noir” version of several Spider-Man well-known characters, including teen Miles Morales as a young Spider-Man version and a more mature Peter Parker. There will even be a Spider-Gwen in the movie.

The trailer already looks good and is included below. Cage’s character, Spider-Man Noir from back in the depression era of 1933, does not seem to appear in the trailer, as several different universes collide into one great Spider-Man adventure.

Nicolas Cage as a vigilante Spider-Man

Collider reports that Cage will be voicing the character of Spider-Man Noir, but said the design in the Spider-verse had not yet been revealed. They said that in the original comics, Spider-Man Noir is less of a superhero and more of a 1933 vigilante, wearing goggles and a trench coat. The idea of Cage’s voice added to the mix definitely sounds interesting.

The animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” heads to cinemas on 14th December. Other voices are handled by Jake Johnson, Shameik Moore, Liev Schrieber and Mahershala Ali.

A brief synopsis said that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, who were behind “21 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie” would be combining their talents to create a fresh vision of the Spider-Man universe in a first of its kind visual style.

Miles Morales, the Brooklyn teen will be there along with limitless versions of the Spider-Verse, in which more than one character can be Spidey.

Unusual super-hero to film director

This isn’t Nicolas’ only venture into super-heroism.

As noted by NME, Cage will also be voicing Superman in the upcoming movie, “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.” That report noted that Cage had said last year that he is planning to retire from acting, and rather head into the directing field, which really interests him.

He reportedly told The Blast earlier in the year that at the moment, he is mainly a film actor and that he will do that for the next three to four years, but after that, he wants to focus on directing.

Over the years since 1981, Cage has appeared in more than 70 films, including “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Gone In 60 Seconds” and the outstanding “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.” More recently, Cage played a more violent Batman in the film “Kick-Ass,” and also got little crazy in “Ghost Rider.”
