The Film “Sanju” by Rajkumar Hirani is a biopic of controversial Indian actor Sanjay Dutt starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Sonam Kapoor, Paresh Rawal. It was released on June 29 and has been breaking the box-office since then.
According to IMDb, the film has been given a rating of 9 out of 10 stars. The film shows the character Sanjay Dutt in his early life when he was so much into drugs that he begged his father to help him get out of it.
Similarly, another film critic has rated it a four out of five stars. The storyline along with the performance of Ranbir Kapoor is simply mind-blowing. The director has a top hand in the entire scene while the actor often reached heights while playing a part in the movie.
Box-office result
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film generated over Rs 34.75 crores (£3.8 million) on its first day of release which reached out to about Rs 200 crores ( £21 million) by the end of week 1 in India. The film has been compared to two blockbuster films “Baahubali” and “Dangal.”
While “Bahubbali 2” and “Dangal” had made around similar figures, Rajkumar Hirani’s film “Sanju” has already crossed that range.
The movie is ranking third after these two films. It is expectedly going to make it up to Rs 300 crores (£32 million) by the end of the second week after its release.
The film also registered the highest opening for any film in India this year, and on its third day of release, it had the highest single-day collection ever for a Hindi film.
If it goes this way, then “Sanju” is definitely going to be the biggest blockbuster movie of the year 2018.
Box-office records of 'Sanju'
Trade Analysts Taran Adarsh tweeted that “Sanju” ranks second among all the other films recently released. He also stated that this film broke the previously held record of “Bahubali 2”.
Moreover, he has stressed the fact that ‘Sanju’ is a film which was released in a non-holiday season that has been successful in breaking the box-office.
However, other films such as “Dangal”, “Sultan”, “Tiger Zinda Hain” were released during holiday seasons which still failed to reach such heights at the box-office.
In a recent review with the Times of India, filmmaker Hirani revealed that he had initially refused to make the film on the request of Dutt's wife Manyata reasoning that "Sanju’s world is very different from my world." And finally he made the film and the rest is history.
