The Academy has revealed the 16 strongest competitors for the category of Best Animated Film. As usual, Walt Disney's, Pixar's, Dreamwork's and Sony Picture's productions made the cut but there's also room for more classic illustrations such as the ones created by the Studio Ghibli in When Marnie Was There.
One thing is for sure: this year's list presents a few sequels, which aren't usually as ground-breaking as the original movies were. Hotel Transylvania 2 and Minions fall right into that category. However, despite being a sequel of a sequel - or actually, a prequel -, the funny little companions from Despicable Me became the highest-grossing non-Disney animated movie of all time.
Even though these are the most noticed movies in the cinemas - specially by the younger crowds -, Charlie Kauffman's movie Anomalisais the one being pointed as the likelywinner. The list has, however, some all-time public's favourite characters that came to the big screen in movies such asMoomins on the Riviera, The Peanuts Movie, Shaun the Sheep Movie and The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
It's also important to mention that, in the last three years, the winners have always been movies by The Walt Disney Company. Brave (2013), Frozen (2014) and Big Hero 6 (2015) proved that they still know what they're doing. Which makes The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out a fair bet. Specially since the Inside Out story proved to be such a strong one and touched everybody in the audience, no matter the age.
