The Echo Park Time Travel Mart - 1714 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, California, USA

The non-profit time travel mart boats that “whenever you are, we’re already then.” Rather confusing, but the shop sells funny relics allegedly from the past, present and future, including Barbarian Repellant, Robot Emotions, a Clone machine and Michael Jordan pogs.

Old Zoo Picnic Area - Griffith Park Drive, Los Angeles, California

If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to be on the other side in a zoo, here’s your chance. The old Los Angeles Zoo opened with 15 animals in 1912 and many of the enclosures had iron bars, as things were in those days. The old zoo was closed in 1966 when the new zoo was opened elsewhere. While some parts are ugly, picnic benches, tables and barbeque grills have been set up in the more attractive areas of the zoo.

Sunken City - Paseo Del Mar, Los Angeles, California, USA

There was a landslide in San Pedro in 1929 that caused an exclusive neighbourhood to fall into the sea. Nowadays the area has been dubbed “Sunken City” and broken foundations, abandoned streetcar tracks, empty streets and buckled pavements can be seen. It is now popular as a hiking spot and appeared in the film “Edge of the World.

Necromance

Necromance opened in 1991 and sells curiosities and oddities, such as preserved insects, glass eyes, skeleton animal remains, vintage cat gut sutures, bone saws and freeze dried bats. Many of the items on sale are one-of-a-kind or antiques. If you are looking for an old and unusual postcard, this is the place to go - 7220 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Phantasma Gloria - Randyland, 1648 Lemoyne St, Los Angeles, California, USA

Randyland is a home in Echo Park with a sculpture web called Phantasma Gloria. The sculpture contains glass items in a rainbow of colours and is ever-growing. There are patterns within of a Virgin de Guadalupe and stylised dolphins. Randlett Lawrence, or Randy has been working on it for more than 10 years.
