September is over with, which can only mean one thing - it's Pumpkin Spice Latte time! Yes, the Pumpkin Spice Latte or PSL is now back in starbucks for the Autumn season, or the "Fall" as our American friends prefer to call it, and for a flavour that was relatively unheard of several years ago, it's now more popular than ever in the UK. I've heard many a friend speak highly of this coffee every Autumn - it really gets people buzzing and that's not just from the caffeine.

Oaty spice

Now it's set to appear as a limited edition mixed with Quaker Oat So Simple, available for a limited period from Pound World and probably other stores to follow soon.

People are getting very excited about this on Instagram, with reviews of the new spicy breakfast appearing everywhere, it's creating quite the buzz indeed. If you're part of team fitfam you will already have heard about it no doubt.

In America, they're even more excited about this vegetable-based spice season. There's everything from Pumpkin Spice M&M's, Kitkats, Oreos, ice creams, cupcakes, cheesecakes, coffee creamers and more. There are even boiled sweets with pumpkin spice flavour.

Vegan spice

Its also found a place with the vegan and dairy-free brand, Califia Farms, available now as a cold brew coffee with pumpkin spice flavour combined with almond milk. Perfect for the health conscious of us needing a caffeine hit without the sugar and without harming any cows in the process.

It's also carageenan free, which is good if you're worried abouty the seaweed derived additive that has been linked to various health issues.

What's so exciting about the mixture of pumpkin and spices then? Judging by comments online it seems to be the combination of the brightly coloured pumpkin, synonymous with Halloween and all it's fun, and the comfort of cinnamon and other spices.

Add to that the sweetness from sugar, milk and/or syrups and you've got a winning combination (not to mention the caffeine from a Starbucks Latte will have you buzzing for hours after).

It remains to be seen if Pumpkin Spice will be as big a trend in the UK as the States, but rest assured Pumpkin fans; it's certainly becoming more of a thing.

I doubt it will ever be as big as Salted Caramel, but you never know! (pumpkin spice salted caramel - now there's an idea!)
