Police have named the suspect in the devastating Las Vegas shooting that killed 59 people and injured 527 more as Stephen Paddock, 64, a local man whose house in Mesquite, Nevada, turned up 18 guns, a bunch of explosives, and thousands of rounds of ammo once police searched it. They found 23 guns in his hotel room, where he opened fire on the music festival outside his window. They're conducting a search at his property Reno, Nevada, in the hours to come.

Motive still unknown

As far as the investigators can tell, Paddock had no clear motive in the attack, making the worst mass Shooting in American history an even more unsettling event.

He just felt like it. That's what the investigation has found. The FBI cannot make any connections between Paddock and international terrorist cells and they believe he acted alone. They've cleared his roommate and possible girlfriend – 62-year-old Australian woman Marilou Danley – of having any connection to the attack. So, why the hell did he do it?

According to Paddock's unnamed brother, the assailant was not known for have any connection to firearms or violence, and his characterisation leaves no clues as to this mysterious motive. His brother said, "No religious affiliation, no political affiliation, he just hung out." Well, that seemingly normal guy who "just hung out" has now hung out of a hotel room window and shot hundreds of people. Perhaps we'll never know why he did what he did.
