The coachella music festival in Indio, California marks the start of festival season and the unofficial start of Summer fashion with celebrities, models, and Instagram 'It' girls flocking to the grounds. The festival, which takes place over two weekends, April 12-16 and April 21-23, sets the stage for some of the biggest music acts but it has become so much more than that. While the Palm Spring dessert serves as the perfect backdrop for music lovers, it also sees style influencers put their best fashion foot forward. This year was no different with hundreds of fashion muses rocking out in high style to inspire all of us for the coming summer months.

While some stars showed up in their typical Bohemian girl garb a la Vanessa Hudgens, others had a fresh take on festival wear with their fusion of edgy and flirty. Here are the five standout trends from Coachella 2017 to inspire you this summer.

Sheer Textures

Sheer tops, dresses and skirts were all the rage at both Coachella weekends. Victoria's Secret model Sara Sampaio combined a sheer dress over a sports bra and underwear with combat boots. Socialite and Dj Paris Hilton wore a floor length sheer, lacy dress with high-waisted underwear and no bra. The suggestive nature of sheer materials exudes the perfect combination of sexiness and subtleness while allowing you to stay cool during the hot summer months.

Try pairing a sheer, lacy dress with a bodysuit, statement belt and military boots.

Metallics

One of the staples at Coachella this year were metallic pieces that lent themselves to a futuristic feel. From mirrored metallic tops as seen on Vanessa Hudgens to shiny skirts that made festival goers look like urban mermaids. Model Kendall Jenner rocked a metallic bralette with dress pants, a cowboy hat and striped coat for a mix of polished and edgy, while model Hailey Baldwin wore a gold sequined bralette with utility boots and urban pants for a masculine meets feminine look.

Try pairing a metallic top with a neutral bottom or throwing a metallic bomber jacket over a jumpsuit.

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have become a summer classic over the last few years, and the trend continued at Coachella so expect to see more of them this summer. Musician Solange wore a lacy, red jumpsuit for the perfect combination of classy and sexy.

While Olivia Culpo wore a cream striped jumpsuit for a polished but interesting look paired with strappy, metallic sandals. Jumpsuits can be a statement piece on their own if you wear one with a bold print or pair them with funky accessories for a simple yet stylish look.

Bold Colours

Bright pinks and sunshine yellows took centre stage at the music festival this year. From boldly coloured jumpsuits to highlighted hair, the colours spiced up the simplest of outfits. Kylie Jenner rocked yellow highlighter hair with a metallic dress and combat boots for a bright pop of colour. Play around with some temporary colour in your hair this summer and invest in some bright pinks for the ultimate cool-girl look.

Statement Stripes

Tops with broad, statement stripes, striped skirts and pants were one of the hottest trends at Coachella over the two weekends. Fashion blogger Julia Sarinana (Sincerely Jules) wore a loose-fitted top with broad stripes paired with white denim cutoffs for a polished look. While French girls have had stripes as a staple in their wardrobe for decades, this summer we'll be seeing more and more women rocking statement stripes. Invest in a few striped pieces to take any outfit from simple to cool.
