Captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first in the Australia vs. India second ODI in Adelaide on January 15. The beautiful Adelaide Oval hosted its first ODI between the two teams since 2012. In that match also India had won the game after MS Dhoni's last over heroics.

Final scorecard:

India wins the 2nd ODI by six wickets, series level 1-1

India 299/4 in 49.2 overs [Virat Kohli 104 in 112 balls; 5 fours and 2 sixes. MS Dhoni 55* in 54 balls; 2 sixes.]

Australia 298/9 in 50 overs [Shawn Marsh 131 in 123 balls; 11 fours and 3 sixes]

The third and final ODI will be played on Friday, January 18, 2019.

Coming back to the second ODI, Australia decided to go in with the same side after a resounding win in Sydney. Batting first in that game had proved to be useful for Australia, justifying the Finch's decision. The move can be strategic as well. The temperature in Adelaide is likely to be around 40 degrees, and tiring the Indian fielders during the day could be the plan of the Australian side.

Captain Virat Kohli admitted at the toss that he would have liked to have batted first as well. According to the Cricbuzz live blog, Kohli said that the conditions will be crucial for the Indians and that his team will look to bounce back after being scratchy in Sydney.

Siraj makes ODI debut

Mohammad Siraj made his ODI debut for India as he replaced Khaleel Ahmed in the line-up.

Young-pacer from Hyderabad, Siraj has previously played three T20Is for the national side and his performance in the domestic and A-Cricket in the last year or so have been exceptional.

Vijay Shankar, who came into the side replacing Hardik Pandya, has not been selected in the XI hence Ravindra Jadeja will continue to play the all-rounder's role in the team.

Kedar Jadhav continues to sit out, and it will be an excellent opportunity for Dinesh Karthik to seal a spot in the side.

Australia unchanged for Adelaide match

Australia made no changes to their XI from Sydney and decided to go in with the winning combination.

Finch said he feels that India will be under some pressure and putting a score on the board will put the Aussies under control.

Australia decided to back the same XI after Mitchell Marsh was declared fit. After this match, the third ODI will be played at the MCG in Melbourne on January 18, 2019.
